Many think this is about sums of money or some future strategy down the line etc. And I think it seems to be so for much of the GOP leadership. But for Donald Trump I don’t think this is about overturning an election by any legal process, but an attempt to legitimize a coup, literally. Get just one state, top-heavy with legislators willing to betray the state’s electorate, you get a foothold in self-justification, which is Trump’s calculation, whether or not it is shared by anyone else. Delusional? Only if you can’t get enough people to share the delusion.
It’s not about 4 years from now, or a few hundred million dollars. He can’t think 4 days from now.. Well, to be fair, his wholesale firing and restaffing the Defense Dept etc with loyalists involves some forethought, a bit of a tipping of his hand… Can we just imagine how irredeemably wrecked Democracy would be in 4 years if this man had actually been re-elected? We may be teetering on the edge of calamity with every news cycle these days, but had that happened, we’d have been cooked. The GOP has shown its colors. They are not Conservative; that’s just a comforting name they hide behind. The goal is to control the vote, not by appealing to voters, but by making them unnecessary.
